Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB hybrid drive Review (ST750LX003)

Legal Storage reviews

Wet from the foot of the review of the hard disk Seagate Momentus 750 GB, with a Momentus XT of the same capacity. If you remember from our reviews on the Momentus XT 500 GB and only two years ago, this line units are hybrid SSD and hard disk drives, which are intended to give the IC3 dioxin performance with HDD prices and capacities. It's a popular design, such as Seagate us that sold over 1 million hybrid units Word wide. We felt the Unit held much promise and value, but still a long way before approaching the performance numbers across the SSD. Now, the latest generation is gone, so we'll see how it compares to the number of different units of the net hard disks into a pure SSD, as well as the original 500 GB disk XT, which we tested. According to Seagate, we should see 1.5 x performance boost.

Seagate Momentus XT 750GB

With its catchy acronym get the expression "FAST (Flash assisted Storage Technology) factor" Seagate is used to describe the merger of the rotating discs and solid components to the user's experience. This is new for this generation. As with the previous generation employs what Seagate calls Adaptive memory technology that uses algorithmic-based preparation to selectively cache the most frequently visited and time-consuming data to retrieve the 8 GB SSD drive part of the Naservírujte it with speed, cannot be matched by spinning the plate of any unit or units. The result is a faster startup and file/application loading times, and the results are clearly apparent. Seagate, in fact, States that it is up to 300% faster in this configuration, with the "to" are the keywords. The good part is that it's all OS agnostic, and is handled on the drive itself, so there are no fears of incompatibility. Fear of loss of data may also be, distract from the cached data is archived on the part of the hard disk for backup. His opponent from the 10 k RPM drives which currently run at MSRP $ 245, over $ 500 per unit of comparable size.

Here's a nice little video of Seagate Momentus XT comparison produced 750 GB versus 10 K RPM SATA hard disk:

We mentioned on board the NAND capacity is 8 GB and 4 GB of the previous generation but remained the same in cache 32 MB. Also new to this iteration of drive is SATA 6Gbps interface, which allows sufficient bandwidth to handle the speed offered by the SSD portion of the disk. The previous generation had a double interface, which may have a limited performance in some cases. Seagate also have increased these 5 years guarantee, which is amazing.

So everything that sounds nice, but how is this in practice? See you again. But first, you will note that this unit is not optimized for a lot of synthetic benchmarks so the results do not show how the entity shall be carried out in real situations. However, it makes at least a good starting point.
