CES 2012: eBay CEO (and new CEO of PayPal provisional) John Donahoe, revealed in his CES keynote yesterday a number of new mobile payment forecasts for not just eBay, but PayPal, too. PayPal VP David Marcus said a few days ago that PayPal had exceeded his expectation of 3.5 billion in mobile payments in 2011, $ 4 billion in 2011.
Donahoe said in his keynote CEO that eBay has reached 5 billion in mobile GMV (gross volume of goods), it's a jump of 100 percent on video GMV. Donahoe also proposed yesterday that eBay would reach mobile GMV of 8 billion in 2012, with PayPal $ 7 billion in transactions in 2012.
Mobile has more than 65 million downloads of mobile applications for eBay on all platforms. More than 890 000 new buyers of eBay ended their first purchase of eBay via mobile applications by 2011, an increase of 113%-year. Donahoe also announced a new strategic partner of eBay scanning app RedLaser barcode, who is it? It is, Best Buy. The app was updated in the fall last to include the integration of PayPal and Milo to give users the opportunity to buy now for pick-up in-store or home delivery later.
Best Buy Toys R Us joined as latest partner of RedLaser.
